Client: Everytown for Gun Safety

Each year, on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, Everytown’s Authors Council organizes authors, editors, publishers, bookstores, book influencers, and more to raise awareness and honor survivors.

Since 2018, Sarah has overseen literary initiatives for Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. This includes the Moms Demand Action Book Club as well as the Authors Council, designed to harness the power of the literary community to amplify the gun safety movement.

Wear Orange weekend, the first weekend in June, is a focal point of their work. In 2022, longtime partner Penguin Random House engaged widely across social media, with 11 imprints spreading the word. Each year they update their National Gun Violence Awareness Day reading list, to give readers a greater understanding of the issue and its impact.

Authors members Jodi Picoult, Jason Reynolds, Ann Patchett, Emma Straub, Alexander Chee, Susan Orlean and Meg Wolitzer are among the many who share messages on social media. A growing number of Bookstagram influencers are using #EnoughStack and #StackOrangetoEndGunViolence to spread the word.
